Geography of Holland park

It is predominantly a residential district, with some commercial areas along the main road, Logan Road. Holland Park is an older suburb consisting primarily of post-World War II wooden houses.

History Of Holland Park

Holland Park takes its name from the late Julius Holland, who for many years owned a large area of bushland that he had purchased for speculative purposes. The land extended from Abbotsleigh Street to near Arnold Street and from Logan Road back to Cavendish Road.

The Holland Park area was settled beginning in 1865, with the land used primarily for agriculture.
In 1882, Julius Holland sold “Holland Estate.” This 150 acres of scrub was Holland Park proper, but as lands in the vicinity also took the name Holland Park, an expansive meaning was given to the name. A much larger area is now comprehensively known as Holland Park.

On Saturday, May 24, 1884, the Windsor Castle Estate was sold at auction by John F. Buckland.  The subdivision consisted of 217 allotments. The subdivision “affords a splendid view of the town and all the surrounding country from the bay to the town.” Tarana Estate was auctioned on Saturday, November 20, 1926 by Blocksidge and Ferguson Ltd.

Framont Estate on Logan Road was advertised for auction on October 30, 1926, with 55 allotments for sale. The plots had “all perfect building stones, beautiful slope, high and airy, extra large areas, well drained, ideal surroundings, graded and shaped streets.”

Stonehaven Heights Estate in Raff Avenue was the subject of a private sale on March 25, 1931.The location had previously been advertised for sale on September 28, 1918 and the sale was held on September 28, 1918.

In 1918, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane, James Duhig, purchased 3 acres of land in the Yuletide Estate for a church and school.

The Holland Park Baptist Church was built. Holland Park Baptist Church was opened on Saturday, December 15, 1928, by the Reverend Alfred George Weller, president of the Baptist Association.

The new church was 9.1 x 5.5 m (9.1 x 5.5 ft). It consisted of an old building that the Baptist Association had purchased, removed from another location, and rebuilt at 10 Yuletide Street on Logan Road, now in Holland Park West.  A new church building was constructed on the site in 1970, with the former church moved to the rear of the site. Grace Bible Church, now located on the site, is not affiliated with the Baptist Association.

Mount Thompson Crematorium was officially opened on Sunday September 9 1934, the first crematorium in Queensland
